Happy Holidays and an awesome new year!

Dear readers,

it’s been a while since I posted some new stuff here. Life was stressful and there was hardly any room for sculpting or painting. The little time I had for creativity went into trying out some tasty meals to indulge…comfort food, you know. Fortunately I turned myself into a fitness addict (well almost) and enjoyed both.

I hope all of you, wherever and whoever you are, have a lovely Christmastime and a happy healthy new year.

Tiny desk for a nerdy faun and a glimpse into an artist´s studio….

Hiya, how are you, dear readers?
Here is the covenient writer´s desk of George, the “nerdy” one of the two brothers who founded Faunia.

It has a hinged lid – and I surely would not mind to have such a practical and nice piece of furniture in my studio as well;-)

By the way –  it´s the first furniture-prop I made from wood,  and the tiny book is another “first time try” – I had a great time making those two pieces 😉

And this is my “working” space where all my ideas come to life.
Dull, eh ? 😉
Right there in the middle on my desk you can see a greyish blob – that´s a new piece of work-in-progress of my ongoing “Scottish Sculpture Series” –  a grim Scotsman (Dougal McKenzie of the fantastic Outlander-World) with his brave deerhound (any idea for a really nice Scottish dog name?? Hamish? Graeme?). Do I have any Scottish followers with some inspiration in that regard???
That piece of work will be named “Hunting Stag”. And yes – of course I will return to Faunia, but my heart&mind are still stuck in Scotland and enjoy my “holidays” there tremendously.

Tiny tools for a crafty faun

Hi there,
what would Mac,the crafty one of the two faunian brothers be without his tools – as he usually spends his day building or repairing things.
In addition,  I made him an utility-belt to keep his hammer, knife and such handy. I find it quite nice and practical…wouldn´t mind to have such a thing myself 😉
My next endeavor will be a nice elegant wooden desk for George to write on, and some other little accessoires for both of them.

George & Mac – the handsome backbone of Faunia

Yay! Here they are: George and Mac, Faunia´s founders.

It took me quite some time to finish them and get the details right. Now I am especially content with how their skin texture turned out, all healthy & sunkissed, and with a nice “hands-on” air about them ready to roll up their (not yet added) sleeves to do all they can for Faunia´s prospering community. They also look as they are quite able to tackle the demanding task of looking after the two teenagers Elka and Francis , eh? 😉

Concerning the story of Faunia, I am happy to tell you that it evolves more and more. Recently I attended a fantasy-writer´s work-shop and will keep on working on the story, sculpting more of it´s characters in clay / SuperSculpey along the way.

Work-in-progress: A faunian bromance in the making

Hi there,

you might have wondered “What is she up to? What is she doing?”

Well, here´s the answer to your question:

The two founders of Faunia: George – intelligent and well-mannered, a thinker and philosopher & his brother Mac, “the maker”, a supercool dude who can repair anything anywhere anytime – not a man of many words though 😉

I´ve been busy finally getting these two guys into a full-body-version in SuperSculpey. Do you remember? So far there were only their heads made from airdrying modelling clay:

George (or his head, to be more precise) was the VERY FIRST creature / character I ever did with modelling clay! I am getting in a nostalgic mood just thinking about that . His look was strongly influenced by the adorable Mr Tumnus played by the equally adorable James McAvoy in the first Narnia-movie. And from then on, I could not be stopped 😉 More and more curious creatures evolved from my mind and there will be more. Well, these two as you can see are still in a raw state and will need quite some more work and time to be completed. And I am still learning by doing which is great fun – I have realised I need smaler sculpting tools to get a better grip of the details for their tiny faces. I also realised having a wire armature in arms and hands needs to be thought over next time – these are the hands I prepared , stage 1 and stage 2 .

I thought I was extra clever and would prevent fingers breaking off…and wondered why others (I watched some tutorials again) rarely or never put any wiring in their maquettes´ hands…I now know why – the stuff comes out at times and places where you don´t want it.

Anyway, I must say I already am in love with Mac, but George also has his charms and I look foreward to keep myself busy with them.

Stay tuned and see what becomes of these nice fellows, I will keep you updated  😉

Merry Christmas to you!

Dear readers,
my Faunians and I wish you a wonderful Christmas and a superb new year! May good food, lovely presents, peaceful gatherings and joyful moments lighten your holidays.

“Francis of Faunia” … the movie?!

Hello there – long time no see ;-o

As you might have noticed (and some of my wonderful blog-friends did, as they told me 🙂 ) it´s been two month of silence in this space.

I´ve been too busy with other things unfortunately, but today I´ll share a vision of mine with you: The Faunians on Film!

Just a few days ago, I finished (within a very short timeframe) and presented a short but snappy presentation within a business course I am taking, where we could choose any topic we liked to give it a go… “Ha, great!” I thought, “Perfect occasion to talk about my Faunians! What could be more fun to seriously put up a concept of how to make an animation film of my Faunians – and play around a bit visually by placing my creatures in their appointed scenery?!” You must know that in the meantime, by and by, the story has evolved more and more, and the idea of really finding a way to bring Francis, Lucius, Jamie Finn and all the others to life just won´t let go… so there will be some serious script-writing going on and other plans I cannot really talk about right now…

…just one hint: you will see George & Mac (originally Georgio and Massimo) in a scenerie very symbolic as they are the founders of Faunia who built the city from “scrap” , and you´ll see Lucius in front of his Pub where he as the mysterious newcomer to Faunia starts his business but somehow seems much more interested in the cellars of the old building…a long forgotten treasure?!

When it comes to the other character, those of you who have spent time with me in Faunia from the start know of Francis, the little shy faun and hero of the story, his older sister Elka (both pictured in the forest where they were lost and saved by Faunians to then be adopted by George and Mac) , the cool musician Jamie Finn, Dougal the friendly waterdragon, Ira the waterfairy, Miles the mighty mayor and Louis his assistant plus his cute little son Ringo, the teachercreatures Woodys and one of my greatest loves Tripodd the clumsy schooldragon – and then finally Mortimer Crapshaw the grocer and his assistant Rufus, the coati (and best buddy of Francis).

Sure enough, there will be some more creatures but all in good time. For the business course, I put up a quick Power Point Presentation which was very well received (and for the audience, I also arranged a “meet & greet” session with Miles and Tripodd – those two enjoyed the attention like real Rockstars ;-D ).

I hope you enjoy the little Faunian movie clip…
